It’s not officially fall yet, but my corner of mother nature vehemently doesn’t care about what the calendar says. I had forgotten how uncomfortable rain-soaked jeans are. Also, there are several shows that have canceled filming this week due to the KBS and MBC strikes, which I haven’t named here.
- The Park Geun-hye saga: “NIS monitored Korean film industry under Park Geun-hye administration” and “Prosecutors begin probe on alleged cultural blacklist under Lee Myung-bak govt.”
- Bullying issues: “Teenagers nabbed for allegedly assaulting peer” and “Govt. discusses measures to prevent growing peer violence among teens.”
- “Newly minted citizens to aid South Korea’s Winter Olympics efforts.” 19 athletes have been naturalized in order to compete for South Korea.
- “A Lost Decade for Human Rights in South Korea.” A look at what a decade of conservative party rule did to the country.
- “Head-on train collision kills one.” They were doing a test run on the rail line that will be in service for the Olympics.
- “Military opens probe into 1980 crackdown on Gwangju Democratic Movement.” They will be focusing on the allegation that soldiers were ordered to fire on civilians from helicopters.
- “[Big Data on Suicide Unveiled for the First Time] People at Risk of Suicide Lived in Poor Housing Conditions.” A brief dive into data about Koreans at risk of suicide.
- “Over 1.1 mln People Expected to Travel Abroad During Chuseok Holiday.” I want to take three days off of work and end up with an 11-day holiday.
- “Not So Klean: Carcinogenic Substances Found in S. Korean Menstruation Pads.” Yikes. D:
- “Busan film fest to open, close with female directors.” They are Shin Su-won’s Glass Garden and Sylvia Chang’s Love Education.
- “Fighting for an actress’ rights : Kwak Hyun-hwa’s case re-ups conversations about misogyny in film industry.” POS director Lee Soo-sung went ahead and distributed actress Kwak Hyun-hwa’s nude scenes despite promising not to; court found him not guilty because the promise wasn’t written down.
- “Joo Ji Hoon, Ryu Seung Ryong, And Bae Doona In Talks For Upcoming Netflix Original ‘Kingdom.'” Will there ever be a day where I feel compelled to get a Netflix account?
- “Viewers turning away from major broadcasters to cable networks.” KBS, MBC, and SBS are struggling to stay relevant and regain credibility.
- “Girl’s Day’s Hyeri To Join Jo Jung Suk In Upcoming MBC Drama.” I would really like to be interested in a JJS drama again.
- “AKMU brother heading to Marines.” Good luck in the marines!
- “JTBC’s New Drama ‘Untouchable’ Confirms Main Cast And Air Date.” This could be interesting.
- “Here’s the complete list of winners from 2017 Seoul Drama Awards.” This Is Us took home the best tv series award.
