It’s been a busy week before Christmas, including protests, plagiarism, extensions, remakes, and adaptations. 2017 is shaping up to be an interesting year.
- The Park Geun-hye saga: “Woo remains defiant to parliamentary inquiry,” “Park, parliament lock horns in impeachment trial,” “Saenuri defectors to launch new conservative party in January,” “Choi Soon-sil faces special probe,” and “Protestors sing Christmas carols, demand Park’s removal.”
- The Running Man mess: “Kim Jong Kook And Song Ji Hyo To Donate Remaining Appearance Fees From ‘Running Man'” and “‘Running Man’ To Resume Filming This Week.”
- “Chinese plagiarism emerges as bigger headache for Korean entertainment.” Not surprising, giving the recent ban on Korean cultural content on Chinese TV.
- “A day in Seoul in numbers.” An infographic including number of divorces, bus rides, and subway journeys.
- “Uncomfortable, But Must Be Confronted.” A brief exploration of the contemporary art of Sisterhat, a feminist visual art community.
- “Is South Korea thawing to conscientious objection?” Around 18,700 conscientious objectors have gone to jail for refusing to serve in the military.
- “Doctor Romantic may be extended.” An extension is being discussed because the December 26th episode is being preempted by SBS Gayo Daejun.
- “Ji Chang Wook considers starring in The Happiest Time of My Life drama.” Allegedly, it will be pre-produced.
- “SBS Releases Trailer For Lee Young Ae And Song Seung Heon’s ‘Saimdang, Light’s Diary.'” Oooh, this looks like it could be fun.
- “ABC Confirms Plans To Air A Remake Of ‘God’s Gift – 14 Days’ Next Year.” You know what? If they can fix the ending, I say go for it.
- “‘Hwarang’ drama to be made into musical.” I’m not sure who asked for this, but okay.
- “Shin Min Ah And Lee Je Hoon Get Comical In New “Tomorrow, With You” Teaser.” Eeek, comedy. I hope this ends up being good.
