Kpop Friday: 2NE1’s “Missing You”

I woke up this morning to the news of 2NE1’s disbandment. Even though this was never out of the realm of unlikely, it still hit a lot of their fans really hard, based on Twitter and YouTube comments. So I thought it would be fitting today to share one of my favorite 2NE1 songs.

“Missing You” is a haunting ballad about both hating and missing the love of your youth. I really like the music–especially the chorus–and the almost delicate feel to the song. (Miracle of miracles, I even like the bubble/popping noises in the background during the verses.)

The love of my young days is ending like this
You have to be happy
Even if a long time passes by, we’ll still remember each other
Those times when there was still “us” (x)

The MV’s urban decay + winter setting is a good match with the song, too. While I’m not exactly sure what’s up with the masked, bejeweled dancer or the occasional non-decay sections, I think the MV adds to the song rather than detracts from it.

Wishing you all the best, ladies. Here’s hoping the future has good things for you.
