Kpop Friday: Fromm’s “The Aftermath”

The nights are getting very cold and very dark around here, so I went in search for a song that would fit the atmosphere and my general fuzzy-blanket-wrapped mood. I landed on Fromm’s “The Aftermath,” which is a lovely, low-key duet about a relationship that didn’t work out.

First off, the song itself is gorgeous. I love Fromm’s voice in this song–smooth, mid-range, a touch of wistfulness–and Minhyun of NU’EST complemented her well.  The chorus, and their harmonies there and the latter half of the song, are my favorites. I’m always delighted when a collaboration works out well, and this is a great one.

Second, lyrics are pretty much everything I’d want in a break up song, all one-sided small talk interspersed with distant concern and the faintest hint of regret:

We had such a hard time starting
And we didn’t last that long
But it’s so strange

When I close my eyes, I still dream of you

It’s a quiet, lovely song, and a welcome addition to any winter or breakup playlist. If you haven’t heard it already, you should definitely give it a listen.
