History Lessons, Omurice, and Drama News

We’ve got a little bit of everything today, from South Korean history to a recipe to the question anyone in a romantic relationship dreads: When will you get married?

  • History of South Korea – Part 1 (1919-1979).” Get ready for a dense whirlwind of information spanning sixty years, from independence to dictatorship. Be sure to hit the pause button while you watch so you can read all the text on the screen–the video moves very fast.
  • Hmart presents: How to make Omurice.” I’ll admit it, I made omurice with my old roommate for the first time after we watched a couple episodes of Rooftop Prince. This recipe seems pretty easy, so if you’re looking for something new to add to your menu, check it out!
  • People Ask Me When I Will Get Married.” A personal essay by a 31-year-old woman about how everyone around her asks when she will get married. The essay discusses South Korean feminism, domestic violence, marriage equality, her bisexual boyfriend, and women in the workplace, among other things. A great read.
  • Actor Lee Jong-suk takes on first villain role.” I’ve been wanting Lee Jong-suk to play a villain since his murder walk in I Hear Your Voice, so it delights me that he gets to be a North Korean serial killer in the upcoming “espionage noir thriller,” VIP.
  • Seo In-gook transforms into Shopping King Louie.” We’ve got our first stills–and some new details on Shopping King Louie, which will replace W: Two Worlds on MBC’s Wednesday/Thursday slot. I’m not sure exactly how I feel about amnesia that’s a lie, I dislike it 90% of the time, which will be a driving force in Seo In-gook’s character’s life. Guess we’ll see how it turns out!
